    Behavioral Health Treatment Services

    On a monthly basis, Mental Health staff provide services to approximately 50% of their respective institution's inmates from Nebraska's 93 counties, as well as those inmates placed in the care of the NDCS through interstate transfers. The Mental Health Department makes services available to all inmates, either upon their request, or staff referral.

    Gambling Addiction Program

    A program that uses an advisory council, service providers, and consumers to plan what it does. Its goal is to help use the state dollars it is given to direct services, and reduce problem gambling for all Nebraskans.

    Regional Centers

    The Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) directly operates three Regional Centers (public psychiatric hospitals) in Lincoln, Hastings, and Norfolk, Nebraska. They provide acute inpatient, secure residential and intermediate residential services and coordinate services with available community resources. Regional Centers serve people who need very specialized psychiatric services. Regional Centers also provide services to people who, because of mental illness, require a highly structured treatment setting.

University of Nebraska Public Policy Center: Behavioral Health

Behavioral health issues impact everyone from infants to older populations. Effective care for behavioral health issues may be undermined by gaps in services, long waiting lists, cultural and language barriers, and more. The Public Policy Center has worked to improve public policy in behavioral health in Nebraska through projects like the Gambler’s Assistance Program Evaluation, Disaster Behavioral Health research, the Children's Mental Health State Infrastructure Grant, and an initiative to connect people with behavioral health needs to high quality services using the resources of faith-based and community-based organizations.
